The Ultimate Summer Fun List

Summer provides a great opportunity for kids to get outdoors, go exploring with friends and enjoy countless activities together. In doing so, they can make the most out of the hot weather and avoid being stuck staring at some screens. Here are some of the greatest summer kids activities to make memories built to last a lifetime.

Creating Hideouts

Create a hideout somewhere away from the home or even in the backyard. With the right playground equipment, it’s easy to create an awesome hideout or den where the kids can play make believe or games. Alternatively, you can explore helping them create a proper hideout, such as a treehouse, near the woods around your home.

Riding Bikes

Going on a bike ride is another fun activity kids can enjoy as soon as they are old enough to ride. You just need to make sure that they know the rules about cycling on the sidewalk or on the road and send them on their way. Remember to always wear your helmet when riding.

Chilling in the Pool

There’s no better way to enjoy the summer heat than relaxing in the pool. Lounge around on floats or play a variety of different games like pool volleyball or marco polo. The possibilities are endless with the right amount of playground equipment.

Flashlight Tag

If your kids are out in the evening, then they should experience the thrill of flashlight tag. This variation of the game involves shining lights on different players to catch them out. It makes things a little more interesting and exciting while staying in a safe environment.

Water Fights

Water fights are a great way to keep cool on the hottest days of the year. Check out your nearest dollar store or supermarket and pick up water guns or water balloons to have the most epic battle in the backyard. Whether you invite the neighborhood kids over or keep it to a family affair, everyone is sure to enjoy themselves for hours to come.

Camp Out in the Yard

If your kids don’t want the outdoor fun to end, they can camp out in the backyard. If it’s hot enough, they might be able to just sleep in their sleeping bags or underneath a blanket and duvet. Alternatively, you can set up a tent for them.

Have a Picnic

Summer is the perfect time for eating outdoors. Let your kids prepare some sandwiches and snacks and their favorite beverage while picking out the best spot in the yard—perhaps under a tree for some shade. Pack up a blanket and enjoy each other's company while indulging in a delicious meal.

Spot Butterflies

If your kids are stuck for activities to try, send them hunting for nature like butterflies. They can either catch them or simply write down details about the different varieties and colors of butterflies that they see. Turn it into a game after the fact and provide them paper and crayons to draw all the butterflies they saw on their adventure.

Color the Sidewalk or Driveway

A great outdoor artistic choice for younger children would be letting them color the driveway or sidewalk with chalk. They can create wonderful, bright images and the inevitable rain will wash the chalk away after a couple of days, leaving a blank canvas for the next masterpiece. Bring back a classic game and teach them how to play hopscotch—a great way to play and learn how to count at the same time.

Go Rolling Down Hills

It may sound simple, but playing in the grass is one of the easiest ways to entertain the young kids. Find a hill and watch them tumble down it with joy on their face. This has been a classic summer activity for decades and all you need is a gentle slope with lush grass for a great time.
